What counts as a custom project
Anything that is not already on the shelf. That includes: a standard bridge in a non-stock alloy, a new-geometry saddle machined to a drawing, a private-label run with an embossed logo, or a prototype batch for a builder's signature model. All of it goes through the same five-step process below.
The five-step project flow
Every custom project runs through a predictable workflow. It is boring on purpose — we would rather surface questions early than rediscover them after the material is cut.
1. Brief: a drawing (PDF / DXF) or a physical sample, plus quantity and deadline.
2. Quote: we respond with alloy, finish, tolerance, lead time, and per-unit price.
3. First-article sample: we machine one unit and ship it to you for sign-off.
4. Production run: once you sign off, we run the batch with the same fixtures.
5. QC and ship: 100% dimensional inspection on critical features, followed by the same packaging as our retail items.
Run sizes and lead times
Typical OEM batch is 500+ units; typical small-batch boutique run is 25–200 units. Standard lead time on materials we stock is 4–6 weeks from final sign-off. Longer lead times apply for exotic alloys (titanium, phosphor bronze) or for runs where we need to machine new fixtures.
What to send when you get in touch
A drawing is ideal. A physical sample works. A photo with a ruler is enough for an initial quote. Email everything to contact@aumsen.com with the quantity and the deadline — we reply within one business day.
